I’ve been running this blog for a long time now, such as it is, and have essentially come to the point that I want a fresh start without any existing baggage. As such, I won’t be maintaining this site any more. Instead, I will be working on a fresh site.
You’ll find a slightly more detailed explanation there too.
I will probably archive my vectors somewhere in a better environment than the current hacked-together gallery pages so that I can close this down for good. In the mean time I’m keeping everything up. There’s always Vectorbooru too, though it looks to be almost as dead as this site now.

I came to a realisation yesterday - I started doing vector traces back in September 2003, though I didn’t release my first one until October. When exactly I started is still a mystery, however it’s five years ago this month. As such, I got off my lazy arse and added a gallery of everything, which you can find here or in the link above. My intention is to further integrate the gallery into blog entries in the future as well. If you encounter any wierdness - and you probably will, I can’t test everything - then please drop a comment here and let me know.
Expect a misty-eyed retrospective entry soonish. It’s amazing how much I sucked back when I started this stuff. Also, I’m open to suggestions for a 5th anniversary commemorative vector. :V
Today’s random thought: I like the way our current blog theme (slightly customised K2) looks, but it is pretty flawed. Everything feels a bit constricted, I’m really not a fan of the whole AJAX Archives system since it loses your position if you navigate away from the page and come back again, and most importantly the thing is tiny. It’s like a tiny little island of content afloat in a massive wide sea of pinku, at least on my monitor (1920×1200). It was built for 800×600 minimum, but does anyone really use below 1024×768 nowadays? The width really frustrates me too, as it means that any images used in posts have to be really small and given that a lot of our content is vector artwork that’s an unfortunate compromise.
I’m also still not 100% sold on Wordpress, though to be honest I doubt that there’s anything better out there. There definitely doesn’t seem to be a decent gallery plugin for it that would be right for what I need (one ‘image’ with links to multiple variations, i.e. resolutions).
Comments and thoughts are appreciated.
EDIT: Embiggenment complete. I can have decent sized images now, yay.
I’ll be upgrading to the latest Wordpress and K2 tonight, so there may be some disruption to the site. Hopefully this will all go smoothly.
EDIT: Looks like the wordpress update went fine, now to fix up k2. Hopefully the customised stylesheet we created will still be compatible with RC6.
EDIT2: Looks okay. Need to hack K2 slightly because they have this annoying thing about not adding tags to posts, doing that now.
EDIT3: Everything should be done. This took far longer than it should have.
As promised, the bog is now pinku again, for the first time since about mid 2005. And if you’re male and browsing at work, all your workmates will laugh at you.
Your input is valued. No, I will not make it un-pinku for you. Though I might make a second version based off darker colours eventually, as this is all CSS anyway.
EDIT: With some help from Marmot, I’ve replaced the boring old header image with a superior one. Mugimugi~.
