This is probably going to stir up some awful horrible internet rage against me again, but I sat down with a decent DVD rip of episode one of Nanoha Strikers, a copy of Yesy’s episode 1 sub, and the result is that there is now a nice, completely softsubbed DVD rip available for everyone’s perusal. This is completely unofficial and without Yesy’s permission. I was really doing it for my own personal edification, especially recreating the karaoke (I actually like timing subtitles,
) but because it may be weeks before Yesy has time to bother releasing DVD versions - if at all - I thought I’d share.

By now a lot of people have said their piece about Nanoha Strikers. The show seems to have polarised its fan base quite cleanly. One half is very firmly in the camp that declares that the show is progressing with the pace of a lame turtle, and the other half argues that it’s just temporary and things are still being set up and it’s going to get awesome any minute now. I’m unfortunately in the former group, despite having sat in the latter for a while. By now I’m sure everyone’s sick of ‘omg strikers sux’ blog posts, but I want to spend some time reflecting on why it’s failing a lot of people’s expectations, rather than what it is failing at.

Graf Eisen done as promised, along with a combined shot replicating how the three appear in the Strikers OP. Can’t guarantee that the next trace will be another of these, but you never know. Anyway, I don’t know how but I’ve quite badly screwed up the magic circle’s glow. It’s got a very stepped appearance. Don’t know how I caused that.
It detracts a bit from the finished product but it was an utter bitch to get the circle on the right angle and perspective so I don’t want to re-create it, especially if it produces the same problem again.

Klarwind. I spent ages on this but it still ended up looking kind of crap. There’s an annoying bit of aliasing in the background too - the glow is stepped. Nothing I can do about it it seems, I think it’s a limitation in the number of greens that 32-bit colour can show, combined with the fact that the human eye can pick out more shades of green than it can red or blue.
Graf Eisen tomorrow, along with a combined trace with the three belka weapons together.

Laevatein, Signum’s armed device. The image I’ve traced this from also has Graf Eisen and Klarwind in it, so I’ll probably make separate traces for them and then do a combined one replicating the original image. Before anyone asks, it’s not Bardiche because the Bardiche image in the Strikers OP will be super-hard to do and I’m lazy this week. Once again, I didn’t trace the magic circle, I stole it.
