Halo 3

Just got done with just shy of 24 hours of Halo 3. The midnight launch was much better organised this time - Halo 2 was a nightmare, wheras this time the store opened early to allow people to pre-pay and grab a ticket. I ended up getting there half an hour before launch, and only had to wait about ten minutes after the release time before I secured my legendary edition.

Extras are a bit of a disappointment. The promised 4 discs mysteriously shrank to three, and the content on them isn’t anything that special. The helmet itself, however, is gorgeous. For those who care, mine is #548108. Following the launch, myself and three buddies immediately sat down and played through the entire campaign on Legendary 4 player co-op. I won’t spoil anything except saying that the campaign is much more enjoyable, though I still hate fighting the flood as they’re some of the most tremendously boring adversaries in the game, so the overall experience takes a slight dip when they show up. However it’s still a much better experience than Halo 2 was, and probably edges out Halo as there’s no backtracking through previous levels, and there’s no repetitive geometry a la The Library. The campaign itself feels very tight and polished as well. And the ending is quite satisfactory. That said, playing co-op with four players makes it very easy to finish and we pretty much steamrolled our way through. I think it will be a deeper experience when playing solo.

Multiplayer seems excellent, but I haven’t really had a chance to check it out in depth. Overall, it was very much worth the wait, and pretty much manages to meet expectations, though it falls a little short of its potential.

Off to Anime Weekend Atlanta!

September’s a wonderful month for conventions in Atlanta. There’s DragonCon at the start of the month, and Anime Weekend Atlanta at the end of the month. As you’ve probably guessed, I’ll be at AWA this weekend, and won’t be online until I get back. Expect a full account of what happened as soon as I return!

Also, fuck Area 11 for its indefinite preemption of Higurashi Kai and the bloody, deliciously bloody conclusion of School Days. Fuck Area 11 right in the eye. But more on that when I get back.

‘Til next time!

That wierd little fang

This is something that’s been bugging me for a while.

Exhibit A: The Single Fang

If you’ve watched practically any lighter anime from the last decade or so, you’ll know what I’m talking about. That single little fang that a lot of girls seem to feature. Does this thing have an actual name? What purpose does it actually serve? Is it a reference to something? Some kind of untranslatable Japanese cultural thing? Or is it just there to look cute? Also, why does it work so well? What is it about the Monofang that it seems to impart a huge cuteness bonus? Am I just overanalysing things?

The Ridiculously Late DragonCon Followup.

So DragonCon happened almost two weeks ago, and yes, I’m only now getting around to reporting on it. I have no excuses, but I do have fat Klingon cosplay as promised. Okay, maybe not fat, but I did the best I could with what I had to work with. For being a general nerdshit convention, there wasn’t that much Star Trek cosplay going on. An awful lot of shitty anime cosplay, though. Almost exclusively Bleach, too.

Pingbacks and the Healing-Type

Bad Behavior is aptly named, as apparently it’s been blocking all my pingbacks from being sent recently. :( If you suddenly see new pingbacks from articles posted months ago, this is why.

In completely unrelated discussion, apparently my taste in anime girls is not so random after all. While enumerating various characters I like, Marmot rightly observed that I appear to like the calm, encouraging type. TMYK I guess.
