Another one done. 29 to go.
This actually didn’t take very long, but I spent ages hunting for a good cover for her book, and also spent a decent amount of time tracing the Mahora crest separately, which I intend to use for other girls who have it on their blazer too. If anyone else would like it, there is a high-res version here.

I’ve had a number of calls for Makie, who is a character I also like a bit. Originally she was going to be next, but her eyecatch has an entire leg obscured by the logo, and more importantly, if you look at the positioning of her leg and foot you’ll notice that something looks odd, like her knee is bent backwards on itself. So Makie will involve re-drawing a leg, something I’ve never done before. I suck at re-drawning - I re-drew Nodoka’s hand in this one, and it looks crap.
I have a new project: to at least attempt to do all 31 of the eyecatches from the new Negima OAV. There’s one for each of the girls. I realise this is somewhat of a herculenean task, and chances are I won’t finish it. I’m open to suggestions for the next one. Since someone requested Yue, and because Yue is awesome, I decided to kick off with her. So, the first of what I hope to be many of these traces is Student #4, Ayase Yue:

Apologies for the shitty background, I couldn’t think of anything interesting (finished this at 5am). I’ve also gotten a high-end 1920×1200 monitor, so I won’t be doing many 1600×1200 traces any more unless people specifically ask for it, or the image is 4:3 to begin with.
EDIT: A number of people have said the straw looks wierd, changed it a bit and made its outline black. Also fixed some errors I didn’t notice at 5am this morning.
So, the new season is finally here. Pretty much everything I was interested in has screened by now, with a few to come still. I thought I’d write up a few initial thoughts about some of them, like I did with the April season (there was literally one series for June/July that I cared about, so I didn’t bother there). In this edition, I’ll have a talk about Galaxy Angel II, Negima, Brighter than Dawning Blue, Kanon and Pumpkin Scissors.

Simoun ended last week. I’ve had this entry half-written since back then, and I thought I’d better finish it off. Yeah, I know, I’m totally late for this. Been too busy watching all the new anime starting this week, and the rest of my spare time was spent reading the first of the Crest of the Stars novels.
Overall, I’d say it wasn’t a terrible ending, but unfortunately it didn’t give quite enough closure. Some threads are left dangling, and while we can tie up a few, there are others which can’t be resolved. A rather unorganised thought-dump follows. If not immediately obvious, this comes with a large spoiler warning.

So, last weekend was AWA12, supposedly hailed as the largest anime convention in the Southeastern United States. As I’ve done for the last four years, I naturally attended, and of course had a helluva time. This year, though, there was something very different to AWA than in years past. It’s tricky to explain, but it just seemed to have a different feel to it. In terms of events and panels, there seemed to be a distinct lack of things to see and do. But in terms of being a social event and mingling with people, AWA seemed to shine more than any other year I’ve gone.
