Neviril

Another Simoun trace. I don’t know if my next one will be Simoun as well, but there’s still some great eyecatch illustrations so I don’t see any reason why not, though I’d like to do a Strawberry Panic one at some stage. Interesting fact: 8-bit PNG handles gradients better than any other compressed format I’ve looked at.

Her linework took even longer than Aaeru did. :( Anyone who tells you that Simoun is animated with a low budget needs to have a look at how much detailed linework is going into each frame.

Aaeru

Some love for Simoun, since otherwise it won’t get any. Here’s Aaeru, traced from the eyecatch for episode 8. This looked to be a much simpler trace than it actually turned out to be. Doing the lineart took four hours, with most of that time spent getting those strands of loose hair right.

I know I say this a lot, but I intend to do some more of these.

No Love for Simoun

Why doesn’t anyone like Simoun? This has been perplexing me for the last couple of weeks. It seems that everyone I’ve mentioned it to has either hated it, or thought it ‘looked crap’ so they haven’t watched it. I just can’t quite understand why it hasn’t gotten more love, because it’s really not bad at all. Or at least, I don’t find it to be very bad - in fact, I find it quite entertaining and intriguing.
