Anyway, Episode 3 of Uta~Kata is a beach episode. As expected, it also involves some swimsuit fanservice antics (though actually not as much as there could have been). Apparently the fanservice in Uta~kata makes a lot of people squeamish, but I’m not really sure why. Several years ago a relative newcomer to the anime scene, Makoto Shinkai, caused some massive waves in the industry when he released a short film entiled Hoshi no Koe (”Voices of a Distant Star”). This film was significant because, despite its extremely average character animation, it had lush CG and most importantly, it was the work of only the one man.
Shinkai’s latest work, Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no Basho (”Beyond the Clouds, The Promised Place” or officially “The Place Promised in Our Early Days”) takes the work he did in Voices and in every way refines it, creating one of the most impressive films I’ve experienced.

Well, AnimeYuki & Sailor Spork finally finished subbing this series today. I’ve seen up to episode 9 raw (at the time, Lunar were the only subber and they were slooow), but once AnY took it up I ended up deciding not to see the rest this way.
Since it’s been quite a while since I saw what I did, and also since my Japanese is far from perfect, I intend to re-watch the series from the very beginning, and will be posting my thoughts here as I go.

Though this is an older title, I recently watched it and was very impressed. I’ve been on a bit of a YUA kick recently, and have found that I really enjoyed the series. The OAVs were better, however. And the movie is betrer than both the OAVs and the TV series, and by a huge margin.
