I really want to support initiatives like Crunchyroll and stuff, especially with the way their lineup has been expanding lately, but I find that I just really, really hate watching stuff streamed. It seems frightfully inconvenient and annoying to me, and I’d much rather have local copies. Partially this is because of Australia having anal data usage caps, and decent quality streamed anime chews that up quite quickly, especially if you accidentally navigate away from the page etc and it’s got to start over. I also like to be able to tinker, extract specific frames, etc. While it’s easy enough to save the CR video stream to disk, they make it annoyingly difficult (requiring reverse engineering some DRM) to get hold of the subs they stream which makes it pretty much hopeless. Worse, it often seems like I’m the only person on the planet who really dislikes watching anime in a browser window. I feel like I’ve been left behind and this is one of those generational gap things and I’m one of those angry old dudes yelling at the damn kids to get off his lawn.
You are not alone, my friend. I too dislike watching anime through streaming. If the quality of the video is even worse than my crappy television set, I simply say “screw it” and move on. More often than not, I find myself using streamed anime as a last resort if I fail to catch new episodes of my favorite series on TV; other than that, forget it. So the next time you feel that you’re alone in your anti-streaming world, know that there are others who share your hate.
This is Haseo, signing off.
Even if I had bigger bandwidth than I possess today for streaming, I’d prefer to have a disc, no really, I want a physical copy than something that could be cut off hard in the middle of watching.

Negs, with the above comment, better put in a Honeypot. These guys are getting hilarious.

Yeah, I forgot to delete it when the bot posted it
I hate Crunchyroll, but only for the fact they used to steal subs from fansub groups without crediting the sources.
I still prefer having a local copy anyway, and for that, Tokyotosho is great. And if I think the series is worth supporting I’ll buy the DVDs - as long as they’re not ridiculously priced.
That’s my approach too.
In fact I actually pay for a CR membership and then instead download the releases from groups like Horrible / Shinji who rip the CR subs and mux them with better raws.
I feel the same way. I watch stuff from a USB external flash drive hooked to my xbox 360. I cannot stand the way streaming is taking over everything. You actually lose quality and fps when you watch a streaming video. Having the actual copy whether it be Blu-Ray, DVD, ISO, AVI, MKV, MP4. I would much rather have those.
I have a pretty decent Internet provider but I still prefer to watch anime via dvd or even VHS. Part of it might be because I like to curl up on the couch under a warm blanket and watch some good anime without having to glue my butt to a computer chair for hours.
DVD’s are great, i have a big selection and am always on the lookout for more. Cant have enough in my opinion!
interesting post but expectable reasons. =)
