Just wanted to point out this excellent essay exploring the aspects of the Touhou series and its incredible fan popularity. I must admit that it’s hard not to be swept up into the Touhou fandom - personally I quite enjoy the games and have a fair amount of the doujin music releases, but aside from that and a small chunk of fanart I’ve never really been into it as heavily as some people I know. Still, it’s an interesting series of games and its popularity is a fascinating achievement given that ZUN is a hobbyist programmer who I believe makes the games in his spare time. At this point I think the only thing left for him to tick off his list is an anime adaption. Which would be awesome. Make it happen, Japan.
Now if only I wasn’t so crap at the games.

at first i had no idea what you were talking about but then i found both fighting games from this series and now kinda have an idea……still can’t remember any names but i like the girl who kinda resembles a maid and fights throwing knives at you….very interesting character
Touhou’s fighting games are spinoffs from the main series, which are all curtain-fire shoot-em-ups and are extremely good. Worth tracking down. I suggest Perfect Cherry Blossom or Embodiment of Scarlet Devil as a starting point if you’re interested. Especially PCB if you like Sakuya, since she’s one of the playable characters in that.

I really should thank you for for introducing me to these awesome games. It has been a long time since i felt my heart pounding that hard for any game, and my god are they crazy fun, now i have something fun to do at airports while waiting for my flights and see how many onlookers i spot over my shoulder XD

Hey Negs, the Maikaze doujin work’s already out, so you MIGHT want to check it out. Tickle me surprised at the fact that they included English subtitles with the actual DVD (and apparently enlisted the English Fandom’s KirbyM to proofread).
I thought it was fun for a fanmade episode.
wild: The cast list is excellent and additionally they’re all well suited for their roles.
Myssa: I watched it last night. Went in with very low expectations but was really surprised at how good it was.
Hopefully the next one doesn’t take them too long.
People are hoping for a Reitaisai release for Episode 2, but I think that’s far too soon. Optimistically, C76 would be more logical.
And yes, it was very good. The animation quality was 90s-era, and the character models were bad in many ways (shows that it’s a doujin effort though), but it really captured the spirit of the Touhou games. Plus the backgrounds were GORGEOUS.
Interestingly, most of the arguments going on right now are about the VA choices. For some reason, people don’t like Rie Tanaka doing Sakuya. o_o And… People are actually liking Aya more now due to her VA’s effort.
Oh, and Yukari is 17 years old. THAT was unexpected.
Hey Negs, I’ve been looking at gallery plugins for wordpress was thinking of putting more scans on my page but I can’t find anything that I seem to really like. Did you code what you are using yourself or is it a plugin that I can find?
I’m using a plugin. It’s called nextgen-gallery and it’s just about exactly what I was after because it’s designed so that you have to embed a gallery into a Wordpress page in order for it to be displayed. So I can add images to blog entries and put those images into the ‘blog entries’ gallery and since that gallery is hidden it doesn’t clutter things up.
Also it auto-escapes any HTML included in the lightbox popup things, which is how I’m able to have links to different sizes inside the lightbox popup. So that part is manual.
Excellent, I will give that a look into, thanks for the help. Any vectors in the works right now?
