Futakoi - Episode 8 and 9

Yes, I’m lagging behind a little on this series. Saw 8 and 9 last night, which reminded me exactly why it is that I enjoy this series so much.

Episode 8 began by briefly reminding us of what went on in episode 7, specifically Yura and Kira’s confession to Nozomu. They interact a bit, just enough for us to remember that yes, they do have a thing for the guy, but not enough to be obtrusive. The Ichijou twins indicate that they suspect something is up, but they seem to sort of brush it under the rug. He hasn’t been too nice to them recently, truth be told, and that’s a shame because they’re very nice girls. :(

However, the bulk of this episode and the next revolves around a new character. Nozomu notices a girl sitting around the shrine he lives on, drawing various things. The wind blows some of her incredible drawings away, and he catches them.

She is Soujuu Shirogane, and she is incredibly cute. I loved her right away. Anyway, the episode mainly centered on her and Nozomu getting on really well. She several times makes reference to how she wanted to make lots of great memories and things. Soujuu has a weak body, so she is often sick.

Interestingly, she starts to fall for him. And of course, there is a catch. Soujuu has a sister, Sara. Yes, they’re twins. However I personally like the Shirogane twins more than all the other sets, for one major reason, which is that they have very different personalities. Where the others are very similar in voice and personality, the Shirogane girls are quite different. Soujuu is quiet and cute, where her little sister Sara is boisterous, has a quick temper, and has a much stronger voice (her actress voiced another of my personal favourite characters, Zephiris, in Scrapped Princess). She tells him that he has to stop hanging around with any other girls and only go out with Soujuu.

Episode 9 also focuses on the Shirogane twins. Nozomu invites them to his school’s culture festival, and Sara repeatedly trashes a few things and causes trouble in her overzealous desire to protect her sister. She doesn’t seem to like Nozomu very much.

Soujuu suddenly falls unconscious and is taken to the school nurse. Nozomu notices one of her precious pastels is missing, and ends up getting everyone to help him search through the trash to try and find it. This leaves an impression on Sara - she finally realises why her sister likes him.

The episode ends with Nozomu finding out that the girls are leaving the town, and him seeing them off on the train. Bugger, I really liked them and they’re only in the series for two episodes it seems. What a shame.

The upside was that Billy was in one scene in ep 8, and not at all in ep 9. This is a good thing. Billy sucks.
