No, “fail” is however many of those days are Naruto, One Piece, and other such shounen piles of shit that have essentially plagiarized Dragon Ball with different gimmicks (DB with ninja, DB with pirates, etc.).
Dragon Ball itself was (and still is) one of the best shounen fighting series around. Not a bad thing to like it.
And in fact, I’m willing to make myself an enemy of the internet anime community in admitting that I still remember it fondly.
Dragonball Z would have been better had they kept it more down to earth and remotely plausible. By the end of the series everyone is transforming, flying throwing beam attacks and generally reusing stock footage as much as possible which really killed the series for me by the end :(.
