Gazing into the Abyss: NegativeZero’s Bedroom

I just happened to have taken these photos a few days ago and some people have asked about my figure collection and stuff. I just thought someone might be interested. Don’t misunderstand me, I’m certainly not trying to fit in with everyone or anything. I’m not doing this because I like you. I just felt like it. You’d better appreciate this.

Unfortunately I overflowed the bounds of my cabinet months ago. My plastic harem continues to increase in size unabated. I’d buy a second cabinet, but this one was a cheapo Ikea thing and Ikea no longer sell anything similar here.

At the top of the cabinet you will see a set of Alter’s Fate/Hollow Ataraxia trading figures. Incidentally I have a spare Caren and Rin to get rid of. Lurking behind them is a 1/100 MG Ex-S Gundam, one of my personal favourite designs. In behind that, facing away from the camera is a Masterpiece Starscream. Who is missing a finger. It wasn’t attached when I got it, couldn’t be assed complaining.

The first thing people generally notice on the first shelf is Alter’s Fate Testarossa. Personally I think she is my favourite figure in my collection. Also present are Alter’s Hik@ru, GSC’s Mai and Natsuki, Alter’s Blacksaber (mine doesn’t lean :P), and one of the first figures I ever got, a Minawa from a manufacturer which I don’t actually remember (I think it was Yamato). Obscured by Mai and by Fate’s cloak is a Primula figure from Atelier Sai. The little tiny Type-moon figures are from Alter’s Melty Blood Pretty Collection, I have the whole set spread out through the first three shelves.

In the background, you will be able to see GSC’s Nanoha. It was odd the way things worked out last year - Alter and GSC both did a Fate and a Nanoha, and in both cases only one of them was really good. Over in the back corner is a Kotobukiya Asuka. Not a great figure, but significant as she was the first figure I ever purchased and is directly responsible for getting me into this mess. Before anyone asks, yes, Amy probably does get quite cold wearing only a belt and panties. The Manaka figure is actually one of my favourites, depsite that my experience with To Heart 2 is limited to looking at CG sets from the game and watching Funky Cat Maybe and Hajikero Iincho. Also present are GSC’s Sumomo and Alter’s Caren and Hazuki.

Yes, there’s a bit of a theme on this shelf. Melty Blood mini-figures aside, they’re all Ikkitousen. In the background are Orchidseed’s Gothloli Ryomou and Kanu - Kanu’s base is huge so I ended up sticking it to the back of the cabinet to make some room. In between them and kind of obscured is Wave’s Hakufu (who, to my surprise, is not wearing panties, though she has a barbie-crotch so that’s not really saying a lot). In the foreground are the only two cold-cast resin figures in my collection, Griffon’s Kanu (on a shitty base that I need to paint at some stage) and Orchidseed’s Ryofu. The Ryofu figure is one of my favourites as well.

The 4th shelf kind of sucks. It’s basically just my GSC Fate/Stay Night trading figure collection. Also present is Kotobukiya’s Louise. The two swimsuit figures you see were actually really cheap Evangelion figures from Sega. The price I paid for them (¥1,425, around a third of the average price for PVCs) doesn’t gel with the quality of the figures at all, so I consider them to be a great buy, doubly so given that they’re sculpted based off an image drawn by Poyoyon Rock, who is one of my absolute favourite artists.

The bottom shelf houses my larger figures. GSC’s Caren and Ryogi Shiki, Atelier Sai’s Feena, and my personal favourite on the shelf, GSC’s casual wear Saber. Or as I like to call her, Moesaber. That expression is so huggable. Also present is GSC’s ‘Preparing Dinner’ Sakura. According to Marmot her boobs are far too small. This assertion mildly disturbs me as until she pointed it out to me I hadn’t even noticed.

So that’s it for the cabinet. As I mentioned, my stuff has since spilled out onto my shelves and my desk as well. Before I show you those photos, I want to request that you don’t comment on my shitty taste in literature. I already know. Trust me, when I get a chance half of those books will get yanked and thrown in a box. Or maybe sacrificially burned. Also, yes, my shelves are dusty. I haven’t had a chance to clean them properly, as it would require moving all the books out of them.

On the left side of the top of my shelves you will see a few HG 1/144 Gundam Seed models. This dates back mainly to before Gundam Seed Destiny slaughtered the entire Gundam franchise for me. I won’t enumerate them. If you’ve looked at the first photo here, then you’ll have noticed I have a huge stack of DVD boxes. Most of them are full. You can see a few in the photo here, as well as in the next one. And yes, that is a GI Joe sitting there. An original Alley Viper. I don’t know why.

More DVD boxes. Also, Alter’s Type-Moon trading figure collection. For trading figures these are insanely detailed and well-produced (I still have a spare Ciel and Rin in my cupboard, I believe…) Behind them. trapped in clear prison cells are Rozen Maiden Traumend trading figures (I also have about four spares here too, including a spare Suiseiseki.) In the foreground is Kotobukuya’s Mai. Her base is designed to snap into others - I assume their Nayuki and Ayu - but since I didn’t like either of those figures I didn’t jump on them. Why didn’t you do a Sayuri figure, guys? Ahaha~

Alter Fauna is insanely cute, but for some reason she seems slightly chubby. Not that I’m complaining mind you. I wasn’t expecting MaxFactory’s Pachira to come complete with hot hot detachable dress action, though again, not complaining (yes, this is the appropriate place to make a delicious flat chest remark). Wave’s Lucy Maria Misora is a reasonably recent addition. She needs to be above eye height for the full effect, since she’s looking downward. Alter’s Nagi is just barely wearing panties, and by the way where is my Peace@PIeces TV anime? Why did the more recent Nanatsuiro Drops get animated first? Withholding Noizi Ito designs from me is unacceptable. And yes, I am partial to pink hair. Or perhaps more to the general personality type associated with it. Moe~ etc etc. And yes, that is the entirety of the Rurouni Kenshin manga, in Japanese. No, I can’t actually read it - I got them on the cheap in Japan when I was actually learning the language formally.

1/60 Strike Gundam with the Sword Striker pack. Because Aile Strike is so bog-standard and Launcher takes too much space. I always liked 1/100 MG RX-78-5, though it’s basically a quasi-UC version of Gundam Wing’s HeavyArms. Halo 2 Warthog with a Gauss turret (I think it looks more like a Puma). This shelf sucks.

I’ve already blogged about Wave using an evil fusion of Evangelion and Cute Girls to divest me of my hard-earned wealth. This is the evidence. Every single Evangelion Angel-girl figure currently available without buying through Japan-only stores or going to Japanese cons. The initial four (Lilith, Sachiel, Zeruel, Tabris) are all pretty much the exact same mould with different bits added. They started mixing them up more recently, with the Arael and Sahaquiel both being a lot more interesting. Shamshel is out soonish, and they haven’t announced any more of them, but if they do then I’ll buy them too. :(

Crappy cheapo Tsukihime / Melty Blood figures. Nothing to see here, move along.

These are the last of the figures in my shelves. Alter’s Escalayer is kind of cool. Alter’s Al Azif is cute, though she and her innertube-with-eyes have trouble staying on the base. Incidentally, if I was a cute anime girl I would stay away from inntertubes-with-eyes. Experience indicates that they tend to also have multiple naughty tentacles. This is doubly true when you’re a character in a bizzare mecha-based bastardisation of the Cthulhu mythos. The figure on the right is an Orchidseed Arcueid. Or would be if Arc was a Magical Girl. I assume she’s from some bizzare Type-moon fanbook or something.

But wait, there’s more! I’ve also got a fair amount of figures in the secondary overflow zone, which is the left hand side of my desk. There’s also a closer shot of these, but I suck at teh camerar and so this isn’t a great photo. Anyway, GSC Shana and a complete set of the four Shining Tears swimsuit figures from MaxFactory. I know, Shining Tears sucks… but it’s Tony, and I would totally go gay for Tony as long as he was willing to draw me lots of pictures. Of cute girls. In the foreground are Movic’s Maria-sama ga Miteru trading figures. Incidentally, Movic, why the fuck does this set not have Yoshino? I can understand leaving out some later characters like Touko or Noriko, but Yoshino’s absence really seems strange. Fix this with a second set plzkthx. GSC Nendoroid Yuki.N beside the speaker.

I am including this shot not to talk about my consoles, but to point out the Nendoroid Haruhi making faces at me from the top of my DDTS-100, and also the GSC Manabi sitting to the right of the PS2. Recent aquisition. Fantastic figure, extremely detailed and unlike a lot of it has a really dynamic pose. Also, Darry is awesome and far better than Nia.

And finally, we have the peak of my nerdery. Ever since I read Rayearth, I wanted a Mokona plush. When Tsubasa and xxxHolic got their TV animations, decent Mokona plushes finally became available, and I jumped right away and got both of them. They’re accurately sized, have really soft fur and are extremely huggable. Also having them in my room gives me a 20% masculinity penalty. :(

So there we have it. My room is full of nerdery.

“I know, Shining Tears sucks… but it’s Tony, and I would totally go gay for Tony as long as he was willing to draw me lots of pictures. Of cute girls.” IAWTC.

Barbie crotch… how disappointing. ;______; Moesaber looks a lot cuter than she did in the promo pics IMO. And Sakura’s boobs ARE too small, man! I mean, this is Sakura, the FSN character that I nicknamed ‘Tits!’ When you have a crazy rack like hers, when you squeeeeeeze it together like that with your two arms, it’s like, HOO BOY BOOOOOOOOOBS! Waaaay too small, man.

Alter’s Type-Moon trading figures are fucking GORGEOUS. I wish I had the whole set (I only have Shiki). Fauna is perfect, I like my girls with a bit of meat on them IFYOUKNOWWHATI’MSAYIN’.

Seriously, I pulled out most of my shitty literature before taking my pics. As well as the shitty movies. And all of the other shitty embarrassing stuff that would ruin my street cred, yo.

When you’re a 23-year-old male and you have two ‘life-sized’ plush Mokonas, your credibility is already in tatters. :(

EDIT: Also, I guess I’m just a small boobs person. :(

“Don’t misunderstand me, I’m certainly not trying to fit in with everyone or anything. I’m not doing this because I like you. I just felt like it. You’d better appreciate this.”

    * Nods sagely * Definitely tsundere.

Damn, not another person with Alter’s Fate Testarossa. Time for me to go sulk in the corner and/or cry.

The only one I have there would be Atelier Sai’s Feena Fam Earthight., though I’ll be adding a KOS-MOS Ver. 4 and Death-sensei to my small but growing collection after they come out.

“I know, Shining Tears sucks… but it’s Tony, and I would totally go gay for Tony as long as he was willing to draw me lots of pictures. Of cute girls.”

QFT. That was what drew me to the games, sad to say.

“Alter’s Nagi is just barely wearing panties, and by the way where is my Peace@PIeces TV anime? Why did the more recent Nanatsuiro Drops get animated first? Withholding Noizi Ito designs from me is unacceptable.”

When the news of Nanatsuiro Drops being animated came out, I was thinking “WTF? Shouldn’t they do Peace@Pieces first?” Though I’m more of an Anzu person than Nagi, as she’s just too damned adorable.

Every year it seems one of the Goodsmile conglomerate makes a super-expensive, highly detailed figure filled with awesome. Last year it was Alter with Fate. This year it seems to be MaxFactory with Excelia.

I’ve got Death-sensei preordered too. You Can’t Say No To Noizi Ito.

You’ve got so many figurines, I really envy you.
I need to get a job to support my wants.

  7. 7 TheBigN

All I’m wondering is where all the money came from to have this? :P

  8. 8 Janice

Omg, I want your mokona’s :D hehe awesome room, ncie figurine collection, must have spend a load :P

  9. 9 0rion

What are you talking about? Only a true man’s man would have mokona plushies in his room. Everyone else would too afraid of what people would think.

    I salute you, sir.

Also, I wish you had taken a pic of your computer, too. That looks like a pretty sweet rig. In fact, I’d say if there happens to be a sufficiently beefy video card inside, that right there would cancel out any perceived “manliness penalties” from owning mokonas.

  10. 10 NegativeZero

@TheBigN: the upside to being a nerd with a high-paying programming job and not much in the way of outgoings since I’m single and still live at home.

@0rion: exactly. I am happy to take the manliness penalty because they are so fucking huggable. And soft.

As for my PC… I actually have two under there. One isn’t used any more as it’s a shitbox. The other is pretty recent - Core2 Duo E6600, 2gb RAM, and a GeForce 8800 GTX.

  11. 11 Adun

Nice collection. I envy those who have a spacious bedroom. My room is really small, but it’s packed with a lot of stuff, but luckily for me, I thought ahead and utilised it quite well. I like how you have both Mokona’s. I bought the White one, but I regret not buying the Black one.

good lord it sounds like you’re actually proud of this. i like this quote here the most

“According to Marmot her boobs are far too small. This assertion mildly disturbs me as until she pointed it out to me I hadn’t even noticed. ”

read this again a couple of times until you realise how horrifically pathetic this is. is this what a well adjusted 23 year old sinks money let alone feel proud enough to show the internet. fuck sakes man get your shit sorted…

  17. 17 Gman

Jesus, what makes everyone here so able to judge? He collects this stuff, you sit on the internet and get VERY ANGRY about a geek being a geek.
This is an awesome collection dude. Not that I’d ever buy half of this stuff, but whatever floats your boat.
