FURRYDOM!
This episode was pretty much awesome overall. Focusing on Kira (finally!) things finally begin to move in a big way. The Minerva having destroyed the entire EA fleet (Shinn is dangerous when he’s angry) seems to have gotten away and is heading for Carpentaria base.
Meanwhile, a bunch of coordinator commando dudes infiltrate Murrue and Andy’s house, seeking to kill Lacus. More discussion on this in a bit. After a running gunfight between Andy, Murrue and the commandos, they make it to a gigantic metal shelter inside the house complex. Some dialogue happens, and Kira decides to take the Freedom out for a spin.
It’s been so long since we saw a proper pilot piloting a Gundam the way it’s supposed to be piloted that this was just awesome. Kira can still Seed, and does it straight away. It would seem they’ve improved his eyes when Seeding - either that or the new threads make him cooler. Anyway, his eyes looked fucking awesome instead of blank and disturbing. He basically kicks the shit out of an entire squad of ZAFT’s new amphibious suits.
So, the obvious noteworthy thing is Lacus. Specifically, who would gain from killing her off. At first I was suspecting Dullindal, because I have a natural suspicion of anything with the voice of Char, but I thought about it a bit and it would be incredibly contrived if he turned out to be behind everything that’s going on given his reactions to situations and the overall way that he behaves. That he has his own agenda and is a skilled manipulator is a given (he’s a politician) but he’s done nothing to indicate that he’s evil.
That means I can lay the blame for this incident at the feet of one person: Meer Campbell. It would not surprise me at all to find that this brainless airhead is in fact a skilled manipulator and has been arranging things behind the scenes for ages. She has the most to gain from Lacus being killed, as she would then have no chance of being shown up as a fake, cementing her identity, position and power. She’s also got access to ZAFT’s military via Dullindal, though I would suspect she’s working for someone else.
The only other things of note this episode were that Andy’s awesomeness meter has gone off the scale - he has a fucking GUN ARM - and that it seems that he’s learned a thing or two about attracting the ladies from Mwu, as it seems that Murrue and Andy are now a couple. Quite a natural pairing really, I can’t help but like it. Murrue seems to have been taking lessons from Mireille recently too - she fights with a pistol like it, at least. Maybe she and Stellar can get together later on and form Noir again. ![]()
